Electric Vehicle Charging infrastructure for UK Staycations.
Are you trying to do your bit for the environment, and don’t want your customers to be caught short on their holiday? Then Electric Vehicle Charging facilities are what you need at your site!
One of the benefits of a UK staycation is taking your own vehicle with you so you can access amazing points of interest without any hassle. But not all cars run on standard fuel. With so many of us trying to be greener, the popularity of electric vehicles is very much on the rise. What we need is more holiday homes/parks/caravan sites to have EV charging points, so the customer can sleep soundly, safe in the knowledge that their car will be charged and ready for the next day of adventures.
With nearly 2000 holiday parks, 8500 Caravan sites and over 25000 holiday homes across England and Wales, a customer should not have to compromise on where they choose to spend their vacation. Of course, there are many public EV charging points throughout the UK, but by having your own charging point you will be more attractive to holiday makers, and you can cover the energy cost by providing a tariff to your customers which is fair and reasonable – win-win!
What are the problems of not being able to charge at a camp site, caravan site or Lodge site?
Currently, there are several problems with the car charging industry inside of venues like camping sites, caravan sites and holiday homes. To start off we have the inconvenience of having to go off site to an external charging facility to charge your vehicle which is inconvenient in time spent waiting and, on most occasions, can be costly to the EV driver.
A perfect solution for this would be for sites to have their own EV charging facilities, for the guests to charge their cars with ease.
Lauren’s story
When Lauren from Doncaster when on holiday to a caravan site in Cornwall, there were no chargers on the site! This meant she had to drive 10 miles south of where she was staying to find the closest charging point. This charging point was a 7KW which meant that she had to wait in her car for over 5 hours to get enough charge to last her the rest of the day and the next day.
Problems like this are faced by hundreds of brits each month when going on a vacation with their electric vehicle. A solution many brits have produced is to use a 3-piece plug from their caravan or lodge. An extension lead is being passed out of the window to charge their vehicle which isn’t just a health and safety hazard but also terribly slow to charge and at a cost to the business owner.
Courtney’s story
In camping sites around the UK, your camp will have a car park for you to park in for the duration of your stay. If you’re lucky, there will be space near/next to your chosen camping set up – but there are no places to charge your car? What do you do? Well Courtney from Essex said that she had to leave the campsite every day at 7am and take the 5-mile journey to an electric charging point. Because of the morning traffic, this trip took her 40 minutes every day for the 10 days they stayed at the site!
What is the solution?
At Charge Ur Vehicle, we recently installed a “Pay to Charge” dual socket wall mounted charger in Bamford, Hope Valley. The cost of the charger and installation was born by the owner with a substantial discount from the Workplace Charging Scheme (£350 per socket). The charging stations are at a tariff of 0.40p for the EV driver which cover’s the owner’s electricity costs. The charger will attract more visitors whether that be those on site or walkers going out for the day. It is a solution which the business owner has welcomed.
